On Friday, student leaders from Masuda Middle School’s Peer Assistance Leadership (PAL) program paid a special visit to Cox Elementary to read directly to Kindergarten classes. The cross-age reading session brought smiles and stories to the youngest learners while giving middle school students a chance to put their leadership skills into action.

The PAL program is built on a simple yet powerful philosophy: students helping students. Designed as a school-based, peer-to-peer youth development framework, PAL empowers students to build a positive school climate through youth leadership, cross-age teaching, peer helping, service learning, and prevention activities.

It was a true celebration of community spirit and school pride at Sheue Field as the Edison High School Cheer team hosted cheerleaders from Fulton Middle School and Talbert Middle School for a Friday Night Lights football game against the Palos Verdes Sea Kings.

The middle school cheerleaders joined the Chargers on the sidelines, getting a firsthand taste of high school game-day traditions, performing cheers, and energizing the crowd. This annual cross-campus collaboration offers younger students a exciting preview of high school athletics while strengthening connections across our school community.

The Fountain Valley School District Board of Trustees celebrated major academic funding achievements and reviewed positive year-end financial reports during its meeting on Tuesday, September 8.

From September 13 to 18, 2026, Fountain Valley School District is proudly joining schools nationwide to celebrate National Arts in Education Week, which is a dedicated time to recognize the transformative power of visual and performing arts in public education. Artistic expression is an essential component of a well-rounded education. Through music, visual art, theater, and movement, FVSD students develop critical thinking, self-confidence, collaboration, and creative problem-solving skills that serve them well beyond the classroom.

This dynamic learning experience is made possible by our extraordinary arts educators across the district. At the elementary level, our elementary music teachers and VAPA itinerant teachers introduce young learners to foundational rhythm, melody, movement, and visual arts. As students transition to middle school, their opportunities expand through dedicated band and orchestra directors who instill discipline and teamwork, middle school choir directors who guide vocalists in harmony, and middle school drama teachers who empower students to find their voice, build empathy, and shine on stage.

Music is ringing a little louder at Masuda Middle School thanks to a major grant award from the Philharmonic Society of Orange County.

Back in January, Masuda Band and Orchestra Director Mr. Rob Covacevich (affectionately known to students as Mr. C) submitted a proposal for the Philharmonic Society’s Strike Up the Band grant program. Designed to support and enhance K-12 school music programs across Orange County, the competitive grant program attracted 52 applications this cycle. Masuda’s submission stood out among the rest, landing one of just 13 coveted $10,000 grant awards.
