hello everyone I am going to wait a few minutes to see just a couple to see if anybody else is joining us but I just like to thank everybody for shooting in this is a little different for me to be on Zoom with parents and I do know that many people have questioned so I thought the best thing to do would be for me to just share with you lots of thing listen to a couple of brief questions and then anything that I can answer that you still need me to answer that I can answer we'll just do the email if that's okay so I'm I'm just going to have everybody join right now so I can share my screen so I'm going to by just welcoming you to the 2021 school year I know this is been a rough start not as rough as when everybody was an emergency distance learning in the spring concerto little bit about myself just because I want to get started with my we can all see I want to just give you a brief update I myself am a parent of two step another district is a 7th grader in my district that my kids attend 7th grade is the start of middle school that's been rough for him my daughter is in 5th grade aside from being in Tobit we really enjoy traveling and doing things that we really can't do right now and instead my husband is working from home full-time because his office is closed it's just that we're all of your coming from brother you are a stay-at-home parent or a working parent this is absolutely one of the hardest thing about you but I teacher for many years prior to being principal and it's really hard to be a teacher to your kids something everybody is designed to do so I want to start out by making you these are my two kids you look happy in this picture but they're they're struggling with everything going on and they think their favorite thing would be to go to school in the sea their friends to be honest let's play sports into we're big Disney fan so if they can just go to Disneyland. Be fantastic but not yet right we're still trying to wait on that so for those of you who haven't read any of my welcome messages person I've been a principal in to previous as the district director sometime as a director of personnel and all of those roles my number one goal is to build the basic needs of human being so that they can be the best they can be and I specifically to come back to a school site in this environment because I felt like being somewhere else wasn't the right place for me I love kids I love leading families and communities so for me this is like right up my ball fit right in my ballpark having said that I know that I certainly don't have every answer so I I feel like I'm struggling to try to communicate with all of you in this remote environment so you still like you have a safety net to ask questions to the number one role that I can play right now is to make sure the kids are safe and procedures that plays for health and safety procedures act adults and kids for symptoms develop as it is directions from the state changes instantaneous basis so this chart right now because it's the first thing you learn is learn the basic needs met its talks about basics physiological needs in the in the time of coveted before this first of all we don't really have a lot of situations where we feel like kids black security and safety but if you look at this chart is physical safety safety and feeling secure is kind of up in the air right now so my goal will be with the staff to try to communicate as often as possible to you and also to make sure start showing up here next week but they have that safety-net and that they have a way to ask questions and they know how to stay physically and mentally safe email me call me if there is something additional going on in your family because there could very well there's a lot of people right now so I just want you to know that this this is one of the things that we are considering when we bring his back he might have everything before covid and David is the great equalizer so it's making everybody question a lot of different things you know I'm on the phone in the morning I know the office tab is on the phone in the morning and I'm working with teachers in the mornings right now it's hard to to teach remotely and it's hard to keep kids engaged so if you're struggling that's that's what we're experiencing too and we hope that we can create a good remote learning environment for all of our students through the year since when doing it every Monday even when we come back in hybrid so our goal is to make that really smooth going forward so we'll put more and more effort into it you'll see more resources start to show up online as the teachers are getting more and more skilled with remote teaching we also know the constant changes stuff I mean the last six months there's been changes to the rules changes to the information about Cove changes to everything schooling our goal is to keep to get something together so that everyone can feel like they have a secure schedule to expect at school how to communicate with teachers with me with the office staff going forward so you know our goal is to try to keep the uncertainty at least to the minimum that we can you know where we're at kind of rolling with this roller coaster and trying to make sense of it but certainly we know how to educate students in person and what to do to help provide them with the resources that they need to be sick so I'm just going to start by reviewing the current remote virtual schedule that were on for this week ignore the dates on this but I wanted to share with you the intent of these remote virtual sessions is to maximize a teacher's ability to not be on Zoom for 3 hours straight but to be able to mix into small groups this first rectangle you see here is the Monday schedule and that will continue to be it's as the first day here but it's caveat where to say it's safe to go back to gym to Traditional School and then we would you know have kids here all day every day but until that happens we're going to be on hybrid virtual on Monday so very beginning on this Wednesday on this diagram is for the whole class that could be flexible though with the teacher depending upon the gray is overtime for the teacher to develop two different groups of students so that they can limit the amount of kids in a zoom chat so if I teach 16 kids if I teach 32 kids then I could have two different class groups of 16 each one for each of those two hours as an example followed by an hour lunch break and then in the afternoons on Mondays really the students possibly would be doing self-guided work but there would be this afternoon now the next several days will take the the will take the second rectangle and again the second rectangle on your screen is really going to only be for if at some point we close again in the future otherwise it's just through the end of this week so difference between and what we have say tomorrow in the rest of the week is that additional whole class time from 1 to 1:30 after lunch followed by teachers would look like Sophie look like online applications reading a back to school night school night we are still not sure when we're going to have that we're still trying to work out the details but it will be remote on Virtual and I will get that information as soon as I can as soon as I know I have that so starting next week it is our understanding that the county will be in a position to open school so we are gearing up to start the hybrid schedule schedule the first day we possibly can so that looks like so just as a reminder Mondays are virtual so September 21st next Monday would continue when we start a Hybrid schedule the time change because the times are going to be depend upon how we schedule morning or afternoon and those would be in person session the AM and PM a lot of that is already dictated by the sea sports that students already received perhaps in special education or if they get certain second language support would be already scheduled so that we can also provide them virtual instruction in the mornings and I will be something that is communicated to you as we learned about it but starting next week our schedule will be either in an a.m. or p.m. session information we are going to share with you this evening I will be sending out an email this evening with the actual hybrid schedule so you can see it in detail for students they will show up here at 8 a.m. at 10:35 with the intent of doing independent work after school is out at home and that kind of depends on their grade level so as you see on the slide third first second and third graders will 20 minutes at Daly of independent work that will be given by their teachers and grades 4 through 5 30 minutes of work and all of those minutes are dictated by Senate Bill 995 so we have to you know what, Dave the law so that's why those times are the way they are if students are scheduled into a p.m. session it's not a surly p.m. it's just late morning early afternoon they start at 11:40 a.m. at 2:15 p.m. the same amount of independent work is assigned although the expectation is the students will be doing that in the morning before they get to the p.m. session that's not in a nutshell why are we doing this I think that the biggest reason why we have sessions is because by law we are required to minimize the amount of students in what we call a cohort group so let's say I'm assigned to mr. Todd kubota's 5th grade class she might have 32 students in that class but the most we can put any either in a.m. or p.m. session is 16 students and that allows us to make sure that students have less access to 11 there with those kids only for 20 minutes and then they come back and then once they leave we spend over an hour cleaning all of the classrooms session and session be the p.m. so we have a route that we will take every day so that all the classrooms are sanitized 4th the afternoon students turn once the afternoon students leave to prepare for the Des Moines students minute I'm going to show you some pictures here is a classroom and how it's going to be set up in that. we have measured all of the classroom chairs and desks they are outside of six feet apart each student has an individual visor which is the the clear I guess whatever shield on their desk that's just their own I'm so in the morning the students come in they grab their visor which will have their name on it please sit on their desk and then take them off and place them on the side of the room and the deaths will be sanitized in the p.m. students will come in grab their own visor and and put that on their desk so our intent is to allow students to take located in the front of the room also spaced out from the front we've tried to take out any and all that extra Furniture is to not share materials on students will have their own materials they can bring your Chromebooks and the teachers are working right now on create Waze in the classroom at turning in assignments that were trying to do that as virtually as possible obviously for like heater for 2nd grade activity give me so in addition to the safety measures of just setting up the classroom our job is to make sure students and families and the educated zip code and making sure that we have a process in place to scream face masks are required in 3rd 4th and 5th grade kindergarten 1st and 2nd are highly recommended but not required we also know that we're going to be coming up with a practice of information yet it's our intent that if we aren't required to have mass on outside that will make sure the communicate with you into the students right now in fifth grade students wear the masks on campus will be wearing masks and that isn't something that is flexible for our staff we will be sharing with you some screening information we hope that this could be really a joint effort by parents and by our staff we will have additional staff here every day to help screen students in the morning when they report each student will kind of talk to their teacher about certain screen hopefully you will do the same thing as well before they even come to school but our goal is it if if students don't feel good in any way shape or form stay home a lot of the symptoms of a ulcer symptoms of the flu there also symptoms of allergies so our works really cut out we have our work cut out for us because right now especially in the winter months we have a lot of flu irises so you know if I were a scientist I would have a lot more direction for you but right now we're going to stick with the symptoms and do our best to be really good about keeping students out of school that have symptoms should be a sore throat cough runny nose we also know that students are asymptomatic so we also hope that you'll help us are there's a bug we'll also hope that you'll help communicate with us if there is somebody in your family that has positive or showing symptoms to we would really hope that we could collaborate with you and keep students home just as a safety precaution any questions or anything like that I will give you as much information as I can as we start and get into those winter months when the new and everything you're going to see a lot of signs and a lot of just a reminders we actually do have a closed campus we're not asking we're not allowing visitors at any time to help eliminate the of germs and spread and then the students that are here we are going to have constant reminders and times where they're going to wash their hands we are going to teach them how to correctly by law we are required to educate special coverings we will have extra mass here in their favorite but we do have them we also are remember to stay physically distant when Outdoors we set it up in the classroom but also to at the very beginning we're going to help encourage them they certainly can social socializing talk to one another to start training them on 60 I'm sure they already all know because you have you've been educating them and because they've hurt a lot so we'll just reinforce that and then for those that are required to be on the bus we will work with our transportation department to make sure the students noticed and they've already planned out student spacing on the bus so that they're they're far away they're not sitting next to each other or even right behind each other that's it for my kind of update I I know there's tons of questions and I intend to come back on to zoom next Monday and do the same thing in preparation for the following day just to reiterate you can always email me on parent square or just directly on my school email Robinson see that us or you call the office the teachers also are good questions for you I just wanted you to know at least in a nutshell kind of what we are working on Lexia. so that you at least knew that we are setting up classrooms and we do have protocols in place and we'll just continue to work together as parents and the staff to make sure that we're doing everything we can to keep everyone safe I have a little bit of time if you want to ask questions for the group just unmute your microphone and you can ask and I'll do my best to answer and I will say if I don't know the answer I'm happy to email once I find it I think there was something on the chat see is there required for kindergarten independent work time that's a great question required students in kindergarten to have instruction is 180 minutes a day that's 3 hours and on Mondays we're actually in school for that 3 hours virtual reality cheat sheet so there really isn't time after that the 3 hours on Virtual on Mondays or in the in school time on Tuesdays through Fridays for kindergarten the teachers may have them do a dish always beneficial especially since his have been out of school for a while but there's no requirement to pass the time in school right now hi mrs. Robinson I have a question what does a question can you hear me okay can you hear me okay oh okay hi I just yeah I had a question about the ampm chords it looks like someone else in the chat does as well let's stay there going to be a sign but maybe the Tarrant has a specific request to do p.m. vs am or vice versa how how is the office and the teacher going to handle that that's a great question as well I think right now talks has is full and all of the grade levels so I think we are going to have to I want to say will do their best to accommodate all the requests because we obviously want to be working together I just don't know if that's always going to be able to be accommodated because right now we're only up to 16. so that means that the remainder will have to go into US time slot 4 p.m. so far parents have been asking teachers teachers have forwarded those requests books at 1 p.m. and that will work itself out so put in the request and then we'll communicate with you if you're able to do that or not and then if somebody does request the opposite timeframe than we can obviously do that this information in the lesson is exact switch okay thank you so much I have a question as well can you hear me is there any of the ESP child care for after their session or before I would contact them there are kids in ESP I just don't know if they're if there's room but yes we are running ESP to my knowledge and I would certainly reach out to Mona Greene who is the director just to see what there's available at Cox okay cuz I know it was only like full day I wasn't sure if I was getting offered for the kids that are going hybrid model with ask and I think things are taught is possible could change to as you know our numbers go down and things we've also I would definitely ask and see if list thank you mrs. Robinson is there a chance that we could go full time at some point this year Josh, pronounce Audrey Josh call the front office I just personally I I don't know what the criteria would be other than or some other medical intervention that would allow for 32 kids in a class all day I would love it if you know they could come back sometime I just don't know the Dynamics of the state Direction and all of that so yes there is a there is a chance and if there is that chance will certainly communicated out and try to do our best to transition into that traditional schedule there is 100% support as far as I know as soon as it's safe to do so I don't feel comfortable Camden park that is running concurrently like at the same time are hybrid instructions if there is there are families that don't feel comfortable sending their child to the in-person hybrid a my suggestion would be to let me know so that I can contact mr. Miller symbol of the virtual school so that we can start the process of transitioning then you know the children to that program so they're not it's not just our teachers teaching remotely our teachers are going to be like I'm starting next Tuesday an option for that the hybrid program I'm sorry not the high school is the school mrs. Robinson yes by this is Catherine. I have a question regarding the ampm cohort the pickup schedule drop off and pick up for the children so if 5 a.m. we have to pick him up by that end time what time do we pick him up at that say if they got to sign 2 a.m. time slot so to 10:35 in the morning and the PM is 11:40 to 2:15 can we pick up the children at the end of that cohort yes extended school program time to help them I I would imagine that and I know that there are students that are attending that so if you need extra time in the afternoon there is the ESP program I think but yes we ask that you pick them up because that keeps them from intermixing with another cohort group does it would be like it is very difficult to coordinate you got a situ I know it is very difficult and I'm so sorry and then the ESP is only for full-time it is at this time and there's not enough slot for all of us if we choose to go ESP how to say working today have to split the day up to pick the kids up and who's going to watch him after that that's a significant number to do you think you could possibly email me your concern so that I could parrot with the director it sounds like it's not just it might be more of a common concern and if there is an option to have a p.m. only ESP I would really like to be able to speak to that I have a question when do we find out if we are in group A or B so that is another great question we're planning to communicate that tomorrow to give parents a full week at least we're working pieces of so yes tomorrow okay thank you I have an email that's going out tonight to share with you the specifics of the scheduled cell so look for that okay thank you Robinson I have another question 32 if I can is there going to be any instruction to the parents as far as drop-off and pick-up are we supposed to be staying in our cars parents tend to huddle in front of the office area are we going to be able to stay in that regard so I'm planning on working with our school leadership team this week to communicate out what that's going to look like two parents so yes we'll have either a video or video followed by several emails about how it looks and what the expectations are anticipated because we haven't been going to school it's going to take awhile of reinforcing like the X patience so I plan on being out there with a lot of the staff helping to reinforce stay in your car will be drop off locations that will be marked for each grade level to help minimize the amount of foot from the parking lot to the actual classroom so I will utilize both driveways and then we'll have staff out at both driveways especially for the first week if not more than that okay perfect thank you question was in regards to like a recess or snack I thought I saw somewhere that there will be a small break for the student how are are the teachers going to be able to monitor that babe I guess wash their hands and you know stay distant during that recess so during recess we will have additional supervision stuff out each grade level gets a 20-minute break between in a while they're here for the morning the afternoon during that time we have very actually have a lot less we normally do because a lot of families have chosen to go virtual we have about 470 total students that will be attending and then split that between so there will be roughly about 225 or so students for each session so we have plenty of stuff to to supervise and you'll see on the schedule when it comes out there's what we called check in time and that check-in time is intended for in a washing hands screening all of those things so that it's not like just a it's not part of the classroom instructional time specific can I ask a question for her drop off question so we have a kindergartener little newbie and drop-off is there going to be like the teacher there to collect them I assume we're not allowed classroom yes they will absolutely be with our staff are or kindergarden or kindergarten Athens facilitating students to their classroom circularly with kindergarten have them drop off in the main parking lot area just because that is right in front of their kindergarten Miss Robinson I have a question I mean know that you talked a little bit about and text John Blue season coming and texts of protocols and I just wanted you for teaching and keeping our children, but they're not feeling well my question is if a child maybe isn't feeling well but a couple days later is what's clearance will we need is it up to our best judgment to know if they're okay we will be needing a doctor's note or just I guess I'm looking for what kind of accountability are we establishing and being able to allow who's the really great question our nurses are working on right now along with the other nurses in the county it's my understanding that if a student of the center we are going to send them home or ask them to stay home so if a child has a cough and a runny nose that could be a million but realistically because we have to take precautions for going to ask them to stay home typically the direction normally is a set their fever free for 3 days they can come back I still have yet to hear from the nurses whether they're going to require a doctor's note that still a possibility I think right now we're just trying to deter is that something is fair to kids and fair to families so I will let you know as soon as I know I just know that if we don't have some sort of medical provider checking on a student who really don't know if a student is asymptomatic adore or otherwise so I think the general idea is to keep them just as a safety measure said it's still in everybody's best interest to do that mrs. Robinson I have a question concurrent with that that the previous question so for the children who was sick and asked to stay home stay for 3 days until do they get to go online to the online school to continue how that can affect the continuity of the current Class A in and being at home working on virtual school with the other half of the online kiss how how how you get integrate that that process to the children who got to stay home so that's a good question to I think if a student is home for three days that's different than if a student is quarantining for the you know up to 14 it's my understanding that at this point if a student is in close contact with somebody positive attended school then we're actually going to have to do something not only for the other students that are in that cohort But the teacher themselves so it's quite possible that teachers than teaching from home while the students stay at home are there school but as far as students coming and going with three days here in a one-day here absence I think we still have to figure that out because the the virtual the virtual school is actually not going to calibrate lessons along with our hybrid model so at something that we're working on right now and I'll be able to communicate I don't know that we're going to have a good answer for that teachers are utilizing resources and online resources are pretty robust so our hope is that I can give you some information on the next couple weeks so that if a student 445 days there's a assignments and things that the teacher could give to that application that's are that's big picture hope the questions thank you all for your participation I'm here and again I may not know the answers but I'm happy to even if we don't like them or just going to have to work together and I you have my commitment on that have a great afternoon everyone thank you thank you
